Sustainability and the Green Campus at CMRIT

The college integrates eco-friendly practices into its daily operations to promote a sustainable future for its community. Recognised by AICTE with the "Clean and Smart Campus Award", CMRIT serves as a living laboratory where students witness the practical implementation of environmental engineering and conservation strategies.

Environmental Initiatives at CMRIT


The Green Campus policy at CMR Institute of Technology focuses on reducing the carbon footprint & educating students on the importance of sustainability. The institution follows a "6R" philosophy: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Recover, Re-create, and Refuse to manage resources effectively and minimise environmental impact.

Renewable Energy and Resource Conservation



  • Solar Power Integration: Installation of rooftop solar plants that generate significant clean energy, coupled with a policy of using 100% LED lighting to achieve near-neutral energy efficiency in several blocks.

  • Rainwater Harvesting: Large-scale systems featuring multiple recharge pits (approx. 1.2m×1.2m) collect rooftop runoff, which is then used to recharge the local groundwater table and supply water for secondary campus needs.

  • Sewage Treatment Plant (STP): An advanced on-site STP recycles wastewater, which is subsequently utilised for landscaping and flushing, significantly reducing the demand for fresh borewell water.

  • Systematic Waste Management: The campus utilises a colour-coded bin system, Blue (Recyclable), Green (Wet/Organic), and Yellow (Mixed) to ensure source segregation. Organic waste is processed in an on-site composting unit to produce manure for the campus gardens.

  • E-Waste Recycling: Obsolete electronics, from circuits to monitors, are either repurposed for technical demonstrations in labs or safely disposed of through authorised MOU-signed recycling agencies like MKK E-waste Enterprise.

  • Restricted Automobile Zones: To maintain air quality, the campus features pedestrian-friendly pathways and restricted vehicle entry, encouraging staff and students to park at designated entrance lots.

  • Lush Biodiversity: Maintaining expansive green covers that serve as a habitat for local bird species, complemented by annual "Haritha-Haram" tree plantation drives.
